Description

Join the USA Marine Science Student Association to help get the "Trash Out of the Splash" on Saturday September 17th, 8AM - 12PM, at the Public Beach on Dauphin Island, 1509 Bienville Blvd, Dauphin Island, AL 36528.  This is the public beach that is across from Islander's Restaurant and next to the DI Elementary School.  Do not park at the DI Elementary School.  Parking at the Public Beach will be free for volunteers the morning of Coastal Cleanup.  Meet Dr. Sprinkle at the MSSA table, located on one of the raised covered pavilions, between 8am and 9am to sign in and receive your supplies (shirt, trash bags, data collection card, etc.).  Once you've gathered your supplies (trash bag, etc.) walk any section of beach (Sound side or Gulf side) picking up trash along the way.  Return to the pavilion when your trash bag is full, drop it off at the designated location, and sign out.  Please sign out when you have completed the beach cleanup (no later than noon).

To receive a AL Coastal Cleanup SHIRT, each participant must fill out the T-Shirt form: SHIRT SIZE FORM  T-shirt orders will be accepted until 3pm on Wednesday September 14th.  If you sign up after the 14th, please pick up your supplies from the central Coastal Cleanup location at Cadillac Square, 661 Bienville Blvd, Dauphin Island, AL 36528. Public Beach Parking Lot and Pavilion Meeting Location

All participants must sign a travel waiver prior to the event.  The liability waiver must be signed and returned to Dr. Sprinkle BEFORE September 17th. The waiver is attached to this need (when you click the "I've read the waiver" box, you can click on the "waiver" to download it); the waiver can also be picked up at the front counter of the Education and Outreach, EOB, third floor lobby.  Waivers should be dropped off at the EOB third floor lobby no later than noon on Friday September 16th.

If you would prefer to cleanup a different section of the Island, check-in at Cadillac Square (https://goo.gl/maps/eDcvSiWMsTJARk8d6) the morning of the event to receive your supplies. The USA Marine Science Graduate Student Organization, MSGSO, coordinates the Island wide cleanup.  The undergraduate USA Marine Science Student Association is responsible for a section of the beach near Sand Island (i.e. the public beach).  If you would like to know more about the MSGSO organization, the check in site at Cadillac Square, or general Coastal Cleanup questions, please contact Devanarayana Rao  at drao@disl.org.

We also encourage you to use CleanSwell App to report collected trash information. This app is available on Android and iOS platforms:

Leashed dogs are permitted at the Public Beach.

Bring sunscreen, water, and snacks.  Transportation is not provided.

Take part in the state’s largest annual volunteer event as you clean your neighborhoods, local parks, streets, and storm drains too. Trash travels through storm drains, streams, and rivers to become bay and Gulf pollution. Picking up litter benefits you, your community and the Gulf.

Over 100,000 volunteers have assisted in this event since Alabama joined the International Coastal Cleanup in 1987. We are grateful to the many helping hands and hearts who have pitched in to benefit our priceless natural resources.
