Description

The United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) is partnering with the USA Office of Community Engagement to host a Day of Caring on Friday, April 8, to engage volunteers in helping local community organizations complete projects they do not typically have the time or resources to do throughout the year.

Volunteer projects can range from food sorting and equipment or supplies organizing to painting, gardening, landscaping, etc. While projects will vary depending on the number of volunteers who sign up to participate, one of our volunteer sites will be Mulherin Home, a local partner dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with disabilities. Volunteers at Mulherin Home will be helping with window and van washing. A second site will be Goodwill Gulf Coast, a partner that provides programs and services to help individuals and families overcome challenges due to disabilities and other barriers that impact economic well-being, self-sufficiency, and quality of life. Volunteers at Goodwill Gulf Coast will be helping sort children's books meant for at-home and classroom libraries.

Our Day of Caring will be Friday, April 8, 2022, from 10:15 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and transportation will be provided as this is an off-campus volunteer event. Lunch will also be provided.

Since projects are assigned based on the number of people participating, please respond to this need by Friday, March 25, so we can confirm our project assignments.  Event-day t-shirts may be provided, so please include your t-shirt size in the Notes field of your Need Response.  Please also let us know if you have any dietary restrictions.
