Description

Join the USA Marine Science Student Association to help get the "Trash Out of the Splash" on Saturday September 18th, 9AM - 12PM, at the Public Beach on Dauphin Island, 1509 Bienville Blvd, Dauphin Island, AL 36528.  Parking at the Public Beach will be free for volunteers the morning of Coastal Cleanup.  Meet Dr. Sprinkle at the MSSA table, on the old fishing pier, between 9am and 10am to sign in and receive your supplies (trash bags, data collection card, etc.).  Please sign out when you have completed the beach cleanup (no later than noon).  Volunteers that "pre-registered" BEFORE September 3rd will pick up their shirts at this site (i.e. fishing pier).  Individuals that signed up after September 3rd will check in with the USA/DISL Marine Science Graduate Students at the Coastal Cleanup table located at Cadillac Square, 661 Bienville Blvd, Dauphin Island, the morning of the event, and supplies permitting, pick up a free t-shirt then.

All participants must sign a travel waiver prior to the event.  This liability waiver must be signed and returned to Sprinkle BEFORE September 18th.  Signed waivers can be e-mailed to sprinkle@southalabama.edu or hand delivered to the Life Sciences Building, basement, room 35 or the hanging wall folder in the hallway across from the restrooms.  Waivers are required for all participants.  To access the waiver, click the Respond button for this need and then click the "I have read and agree to the volunteer waiver" link.  The file will download.  Open it and if prompted select the Adobe Acrobat or pdf reader option to view.  After printing the waiver, complete your event registration by clicking the Submit Need Response Button.  The waiver must be completed in its entirety, have the volunteer's signature, and a witness signature.

Leashed dogs are permitted at the Public Beach.

Bring sunscreen, water, and snacks.

(Hurricane Ida covered the West End of Dauphin Island with water and sand.  It is not anticipated that the West End Beach Parking Lot will be cleared and open by September 18th.  We will meet at the Public Beach across from Islanders Restaurant, near the DI Elementary School.)

Take part in the state’s largest annual volunteer event as you clean your neighborhoods, local parks, streets, and storm drains too. Trash travels through storm drains, streams, and rivers to become bay and Gulf pollution. Picking up litter benefits you, your community and the Gulf.

Over 100,000 volunteers have assisted in this event since Alabama joined the International Coastal Cleanup in 1987. We are grateful to the many helping hands and hearts who have pitched in to benefit our priceless natural resources.
