The Mobile County Commission is partnering with Feeding the Gulf Coast and United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) to encourage citizens to participate in the 2020 Census. Volunteer to support people in completing the Census at the 2020 Census Jamboree to be held on Saturday, September 12!
Roles and responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:
- Asking people if they've completed the 2020 Census
- Offering information concerning why the Census is important
- Providing people with information about how to access the Census online or by telephone using their own devices
- Obtaining contact information from respondants to enter them into a prize drawing
- Assisting with setup or take down as needed and able
Things to know:
- Participants are also coming for a food distribution being offered by Feeding The Gulf Coast. While waiting, they will have time to complete the Census if they haven't already done so.
- Participants should remain in their cars while waiting, so any interactions you have with them should be carside to promote social distancing of six feet.
- Volunteers should plan to wear masks/face coverings at all times during the event.
- Please wear a bright colored shirt to increase your visibility for safety purposes.
- Feel free to bring your favorite personal hand sanitizer if you have one; we will have sanitizer available.
- Snacks and water will be available for volunteers.
- This is not a political event. The Census is simply about counting everyone who lives here, regardless of political party or preference.
Please respond, and closer to the event, we'll share some training information to prepare you for this project.
We're planning to reach more than 1,500 people in the course of this event, so we're going to need lots of volunteers! If Census participation is important to you, please come and help others to join you in being counted!
