Read Across America is coming soon, and we're in need of volunteer readers.
National Read Across America Day was established by the National Education Association (NEA) to motivate children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources. The event occurs each year on March 2nd, the birthday of beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss, and students, teachers, parents, and community members around the nation come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading.
This event will take place on Monday, March 2, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Report to the library media center to check-in (sign in, pick up books and a map). Check-in begins at 8:50 am.
Volunteers may bring their own grade/age/topic/length-appropriate books to read aloud, or utilize books provided by the John Will LMC. The school library is located near the front entrance and can be seen from the front door. Volunteers are welcome to dress up as elementary grade-appropriate book characters if they'd like. This is not required. You may read to one class or MORE. You may stay for 30 minutes, an hour, or 9-12.
Read Aloud Tips: DO be sure to hold the book so that students may view the pictures. DO read in a loud enough voice so that students can hear you clearly. DO select picture books with big, bight pictures that are not too wordy.
Important note: Parking is available in the front of the school and in the staff parking lot. If you park in front of the school please do not park in the fire lane (lane with red stripe closest to the school building.
Please note:
- the carpool line begins to form around 2:30 p.m.
- volunteers are required to check in at the front office with a state-issued ID such as a driver's license
Light refreshments will be served: water, juice, sodas, chips, candy
