The South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program (SAVLP) provides legal assistance in certain civil legal matters by matching qualified clients with volunteer lawyers.
We will have In-person legal screening at the Grove Hill United Way office. Drop in to fill out an application and see if you qualify for civil legal help.
As a recipient of federal funds, SAVLP is restricted from handling certain types of cases.
- SAVLP does not handle criminal matters
- SAVLP does not handle fee generating matters that private attorneys are willing to take on a contigency basis
- SAVLP does not do rulemaking, lobbying, class actions
- SAVLP cannot handle legal matters on behalf of incarcerated or institutionalized persons and undocumented immigrants (clients must sign an attestation of USA citizenship or provide Eligible Non-Citizen Status)
