United Way of Southwest Alabama offers free tax preparation services to the community, thanks to the efforts and dedication of community volunteers. We're expanding our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, and to do that, we need more volunteers willing to learn to prepare tax returns for people. No prior tax experience is necessary; we'll offer training classes and practice exercises to prepare you to serve.
Come find out what's involved in being a VITA volunteer. Attend one of our orientation sessions, where we'll play games, tell you what you can expect from the training sessions we offer, and give you the tools to decide if this meaningful and highly impactful volunteer opportunity is for you. Coming to an orientation session doesn't commit you to anything, but we hope you'll enjoy the experience and want to join our volunteer team.
Don't think about it as preparing tax returns. Think about it as helping people who need skills that you can learn and share with your community.
