Who We Are

OUR MISSION:

To provide quality healthcare with dignity while improving the overall health of the individuals and the community we serve.

OUR HISTORY:

Located at the heart of Bayou La Batre, Alabama, BayouClinic was founded in 1990 as the Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic. Its founder, Regina Benjamin, MD, later served as the 18th U.S. Surgeon General.

Despite devastation by Hurricanes Georges (1998), Ivan (2004), Katrina (2005), and a devastating fire (2006), BayouClinic saw patients without interruption, sometimes from the stage of the local community center or from Dr. Benjamin’s pick-up truck. Rebuilt in 2010, the clinic now includes a ¼ mile walking path for public use and a community room for health education classes.
