Who We Are

The Arc of Clarke County is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to providing services to and advocating for persons with intellectual disabilities in Clarke County, Alabama. TACC is also a local chapter of The Arc/Alabama and the Arc/United States. Since TACC's organization in 1973 by a group of concerned parents, TACC has developed an array of services for persons with developmental disabilities. These services are tailored to the individual needs of each person and structured to help them fulfill their individual preferences as well as assist them to attain their personal life goals. Therefore, TACC promotes options and opportunities, acceptance, independence and community inclusion for those we serve. We believe that a community should include all members in order to be successful. By providing educational opportunities, exposure to choices and experiences that promote a healthy and vital community, TACC continually strives to fulfill our mission and our vision.

What We Do

We all desire to have successful and meaningful lives. We work, live and enjoy recreational activities in our communities. At TACC we feel all people should have opportunities to determine what meaningful activities they desire for their lives. Our main focus is to provide supports to people so they can create the life they desire - one full of rich and meaningful experiences. A well trained and caring staff provide many opportunities to people receiving TACC services in their communities. Community Life Coordinators evaluate a person's individual needs, preferences, and personal life goals and set the plan in motion for them to achieve independence through education, exposure and experiences opportunities in every TACC program. Although health and wellness, rights and safety are the foundation of all opportunities, the primary focus of TACC services is to promote full inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in their community.

Supports and services offered by our chapter include: Information and referral services; Individual advocacy to address education, employment, health care and other concerns; Self-advocacy initiatives; Residential support; Companion Services; Respite Services; Family support; Employment programs
