We tackle gendered issues in marine science and conservation to empower women to thrive in ocean-related careers and learning environments. Supporting women is protecting the ocean - we’re creating an international movement to elevate the female voices working to protect our marine environment.
What We Do
WOS South Alabama’s purpose is the promotion of the Women In Ocean Science C.I.C., among the University of South Alabama students in the Marine Sciences that are interested in ocean and marine life advocacy. We empower women to thrive in ocean-related careers; Ocean issues are female issues, and we believe in putting gender equality at the heart of marine science and conservation - educating the masses. Our goal is to end bias, discrimination, and harassment, empowering women to feel safe and confident in their careers. We aim to inspire the next generation of women to pursue education in marine sciences no matter their background, race, etc.
We will provide members with the opportunity to expand their networks with other female role models in marine sciences, provide opportunities to further education and career-related roles, and establish a safe community for females to connect, share, and
mentor each other through general meetings, events, and trips. This organization will provide services not just to our members individually, but to our local communities and possible global opportunities through Women In Ocean Science C.I.C., give assistance
within their research, take trips related to marine science to expand on knowledge, and use those opportunities for community outreach and education.
