Who We Are
The Dauphin Island Sea Lab was founded in 1971 by the Alabama legislature to provide marine science programs for many of the state’s colleges and universities. Today, 22 member institutions partner with the Dauphin Island Sea Lab to provide studies to undergraduate and graduate students. Since 1971, the Dauphin Island Sea Lab mission has expanded to include K-12 education, professional development, and a public aquarium.
What We Do
The Dauphin Island Sea Lab is the state of Alabama's education and research center. It provides undergraduate and graduate courses to meet the needs of a degree completion at the student's home college or university. DISL also provides academic year field trips for K-12, homeschool field trips, summer camps, and professional workshops. The Alabama Aquarium at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is open to the public year-round and connects all ages to the wonders of the Alabama's water resources.
