Tax filing season continues in full force, and United Way of Southwest Alabama needs volunteers who can answer the incredible number of calls we're receiving for tax appointments. You don't need to know anything about taxes to do this. You won't be answering tax questions; that's our job! But this work is incredibly important. We need you!
This activity takes place at our downtown Mobile office at 218 Saint Francis Street.
Volunteers for this role will:
- Answer lots of phone calls and talk to lots of different people.
- Help our clients schedule their tax appointments at a time and location that works for them.
- Enter all of the appointments in our computer system before finishing the call with the client to confirm the appointment was successfully scheduled.
- Explain the documents clients need to bring to their appointments.
- As time permits, call clients to remind them of their scheduled appointments.
Notes:
- You will not be asked to answer, nor should you answer, tax law questions. Information about requirements, tax site locations, and appointment times will all be available in writing, either on paper or on computer.
- Volunteers for this work should be patient, kind, supportive, and able to work with lots of different people of all ages and backgrounds.
Safety:
- Volunteers will work at a desk in a single-person office within our building. Only one volunteer will be scheduled per shift. Hand sanitizer will be available at the desk.
You may select the shifts for which you would like to work. That said, if you are sick, you should call 251-433-3624 to let us know and should not report to your shift.
Please respond with your chosen shifts and we'll be in touch to make sure we answer all of your questions.
Thank you in advance for your gift of time!
