According to Alabama Possible, Alabama is the 6th poorest state in the nation, with more than 800,000 Alabamians living below the federal poverty line.
A Poverty Simulation provides a unique, interactive experience that helps facilitate understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in our community who are living at or below the poverty level.
The Poverty Simulation was designed to sensitize those who frequently deal with low-income families, as well as to create a broader awareness of the realities of poverty among policy-makers, business and community leaders, students, faculty, administrators, and more. The simulation enables participants to look at poverty from a variety of angles and then to recognize and discuss the potential for change within their community.
On January 3, 2020, faculty and staff of Chickasaw City Schools will participate in a Poverty Simulation. This experience requires 20 volunteers to help manage the various stations during the simulation. Volunteers will be trained the morning of the simulation and provided materials needed. Training will begin at 8 AM.
