National Volunteer Week kicks off on April 7, 2019, with Good Deeds Day, global day of service that unites people from more than 100 countries to do good deeds for the benefit of others and the planet. Good Deeds Day is an opportunity to start National Volunteer Week by coming together with friends, family, neighbors and colleagues to do good in your community.
RESPOND to this need, choose a good deed to do on April 7th and then tell someone about it!
The theme for National Volunteer Week (April 15-21) is Celebrate Service – an opportunity to shine a light on the people and causes that inspire us to serve. Volunteerism empowers individuals to find their purpose, to take their passion and turn it into meaningful change. Today, as people strive to lead lives that reflect their values, the expression of civic life has evolved. Whether online, at the office, or the local food bank; whether with a vote, a voice, or a wallet – doing good comes in many forms, and we recognize and celebrate them all.
When you track the hour(s), please describe your service so that others can be inspired! When you volunteer in a way that is not yet listed on South Serves (tell us what you did, who to contact, etc), the Office of Community Engagement can reach out to the agencies/groups which may allow others to volunteer, too. A random act of kindness is also fine -- just focus on a Good Deed!
National Volunteer Week is a great time to get involved!
