Description

Join Mobile Baykeeper for the Litter Free Mardi Gras Post-Mardi Gras Cleanup on One Mile Creek to see firsthand the amount of Mardi Gras litter that pollutes nearby waterways. The cleanup event will take place on Saturday, March 9th from 9am to 12pm.

We will be going deep in the trenches of One Mile Creek in canoes and kayaks to remove whatever litter and debris we find. Please dress comfortably in clothes you do not mind getting a little wet or dirty. For those who do not want to get in the water, we will also be picking up litter around the edge of the creek and in the field near the creek. Please bring a canoe or kayak if you have one! We will have a limited supply of boats available.

This cleanup is part of a two-year grant Mobile Baykeeper received from NOAA Marine Debris Program to help Mobile move toward a Litter-Free Mardi Gras. Other elements of this grant include working with City of Mobile to install storm drain covers along the parade route and educating the community through a large public awareness campaign. Special Thanks to our grant partners: Thompson Engineering, City of Mobile, Mobile Bay National Estuary Program, Gulf Coast Containers, Universal Precast, and Alabama Pipe & Supply.
