As part of the 2021 MLK Jr Week of Unity & Service, the University of South Alabama is hosting a Food and Hygiene Drive for the Homeless and we need volunteers to help sort and pack the items that have been donated.
Students, faculty and staff are invited to sign up for a shift and encourage a friend to join you. Please check-in at the Office of Community Engagement in the Student Center, Suite 240, at the start of your volunteer shift.
Each shift will be two hours and can accommodate two to three volunteers in order to ensure 6’ physical distancing and reduced density in an indoor environment. Mandatory masking will also be required in line with the University's COVID-19 safety guidelines.
The items collected during our Food and Hygiene Drive will be distributed through Housing First's Community Outreach Program, to community members experiencing homelessness in Mobile and Baldwin counties.
Branded t-shirts and face masks will be given out on a first-come/first-serve basis to campus community members who participate in the University's MLK Jr. 2021 Week of Unity & Service. Please use this link to let us know your preferred shirt size: https://forms.gle/bT23iwhYqDxJvH1eA.
T-shirts and masks will be available for on-campus pick-up the weeks of January 18 and 25. Feel free to stop by the Office of Community Engagement in the Student Center (Ste. 240) to get your shirt and mask. This office location will be open during the following:
- Tue., Jan, 19, between 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
- Wed., Jan, 20, between 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
- Thu., Jan. 21, between 1:00 - 3:30 p.m.
- Fri., Jan. 22, between 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
- Mon., Jan. 25, between 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
- Tue., Jan. 26, between 8:00 - 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
Note: This activity is only open to USA students, faculty, and staff. To control the risks of COVID-19 exposure to University employees, the University Committee for Reopening Campus has determined that, until further notice, no visitors or invited guests are allowed in buildings on the main campus.
