This January, as we continue celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., we do so against a backdrop of great division in America. Now more than ever, the ideas that Dr. King so fervently believed in can be lessons for real and lasting change: equality, diversity, and love.
Please join us as we conclude the University of South Alabama's 2021 MLK Jr Week of Unity & Service with a virtual screening of Never Been a Time, followed by a student-led discussion that will include film producer Prof. Denise Ward-Brown from Washington University in St. Louis. Never Been a Time explores the 1917 East St. Louis Race Massacre to unpack the complexities of racism across America and the impact of language on public thinking and memory.
When: Tuesday, January 26, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. for the film discussion
Film streaming is available anytime between Sunday, January 24, through Wednesday, January 27
Who: Students, faculty, staff, and community members
All participants must register here to receive the film and Zoom meeting links: https://forms.gle/DM5owo7kK3cRTgKd7. Film and meeting links will be e-mailed to registrants starting Friday, January 22.
