PASSAGE USA is looking for USA students in all majors to serve as Peer Mentors for Fall and Spring semesters.
PASSAGE USA is a post-secondary educational experience for students with intellectual disabilities that helps them achieve their goals.
Working with PASSAGE USA provides documented service hours, as well as practical experience for those majoring in: Education, Occupational Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Hospitality and Tourism, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, and Professional Health Sciences.
Mentor Responsibilities include:
- Model appropriate behavior
- Commit to one full semester
- Mentor 1-10 hours a week (although we'll gladly let you work more)
- Submit a Weekly Mentor Log
- Support PASSAGE USA students in social, independent living, and academic situations
- Assist PASSAGE USA students in achieving their goals by helping them develop self-advocacy skills
- Participate in PASSAGE USA events
Although being a Peer Mentor is a voluntary position, it is also critical to the success of our students. Therefore, Peer Mentors should:
- Be committed
- Be open-minded
- Be able to listen and communicate effectively
- Be patient
- Be willing to share their time, talents, and interests
- BELIEVE in their mentoring partner and want them to reach their full potential
