The GulfQuest National Maritime Museum will be obtaining the traveling exhibit, Spirits of the Passage: The Story of the Transatlantic Slave Trade exhibit from January 4 - June 17. The exhibition’s artifacts include the cargo from a West Africa trader, dating circa 1620; a vast array of artifacts from a merchant slaver of 1700 and the remains of various other ships; and the story of three American slavers captured in the Caribbean in 1860 as well as the archaeological documentation of Key West’s African Cemetery, where those who did not survive the Middle Passage of 1860 remain buried.
We are looking for volunteers to be trained to assist in both self-guided and guided tours.
GulfQuest will facilitate training sessions for all volunteer tour guides. Each session will include a walkthrough of the exhibition. We request a minimum commitment of 3 hours a day and 2 days a month per person. Docents will be able to attend all presentations and other events, capacity permitting.
The exhibition will be available for public viewing from Wednesday, 4 January 2023 through Wednesday, 21 January 2023.
Hours are 10:00 am – 4:00 pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays and by arrangement.
As a City of Mobile department, GulfQuest will be closed on Tuesday, 21 February 2023
