Volunteer Income Tax Assistance: Tax Preparer 102 for June

This session is for people who are interested in volunteering with United Way of Southwest Alabama and the SAFE Coalition in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program. To participate in this session, you should have some understanding of how to prepare tax returns. If you'd like to volunteer with the program and you don't have any experience, consider attending the Tax Preparer 101 session earlier in the day and then continuing with this afternoon session. Or keep watching Volunteer Connect for one of our Tax Preparer 101 sessions, where you can get in on the beginner lesson; or better yet, Volunteer for the Trainee / Tax Preparer opportunity on this system, and you'll be notified about any future trainings that are held throughout the year. The purpose of Tax Preparer 102 is to gain experience with the Taxwise software that we use in the volunteer program, and to ask for assistance with particular topics or tax areas. There is not a formal agenda for Preparer 102; rather the course of discussion is steered by participants. If you've done taxes before or you've been a VITA/TCE volunteer in the past, register for this session and we'll make sure you have what you need to train with us. If you have some basic understanding of tax returns (filing status, income, adjustments and deductions, credits etc.), you do not have to complete Tax Preparer 101 before taking this session.
