Since 1927, the mission of Catholic Social Services of Mobile has been to provide services to the poor and marginalized in Mobile County, to advocate for justice in the social structures, and to call members of church community and other people of good will to do the same. We have historically identified and addressed unmet community needs. Our greatest successes have occurred when the impact of these newly created programs resulted in creating a strong foundation for an entirely separate agency dedicated to meeting a specific long lasting need in our community. Five Missionary Servants of the Blessed Trinity began our preferential treatment for providing ministries to the poor by developing a Children's Dental Clinic (1930); Child Guidance Clinic(1936); and the establishment of Camp Cullen for underprivileged children (1939); as well as basic emergency assistance to serve as a safety net for families in need. Later Catholic Social Services staff established the only Office of Refugee Resettlement in the State of Alabama (1980); provision of daily lunch for the poor in the Loaves of Fish Program (1980), which over time evolved into 15 Place; established a food pantry for those in need, eventually so successful it became separately incorporated into the Bay Area Food Bank; and most recently established the Ozanam Charitable Pharmacy (1998), which is now separately incorporated.
Catholic Social Services' expansive umbrella embraces service delivery in the 28 counties of the Archdiocese. We have offices in Baldwin County, Clarke County, Dothan, Montgomery, and Mobile.
