Who We Are

SAVLP assists clients at 125% of the Federal Poverty level in certain civil legal matters.  Many of these legal issues directly affect families' financial stability, independence, and personal well-being.  The clients are assisted either by direct matching with a pro bono attorney after assessment by SAVLP or assisted at one of SAVLP's Community Based legal advice clinics held in the service area.

The program also provides free basic estate planning to first responders through the Wills for Heroes Program and legal assistance to community based organizations that improve the lives of the the client base through the Community Economic Development Initiative.

What We Do

The South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program (SAVLP) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides free legal assistance in certain civil legal matters to low-income residents of Baldwin, Clarke, Mobile, and Washington Counties.  In 1987, the Mobile Bar Association recognized the need for an organized approach to pro bono legal work.  By creating a centralized location for services, community members in need of assistance could access lawyers who wished to volunteer their time.  The original "Pro Bono Program" has evolved into SAVLP, a United Way Partner Agency that coordinates clients in four counties and the volunteer services of approximately 890 local attorneys.
