Who We Are
Organization History
Phillip Cares, Inc. was founded in January 2024 by Dea. Phillip C. Johnson, and two other concerned community members in response to the growing issue of pet abandonment caused by financial hardship. Recognizing the need for preventative support, we launched the Phillip Cares Essentials (PC Essentials) program to provide essential resources like pet food and veterinary care to low-income pet owners. While we are a young organization, we have already established strong partnerships with local veterinarians and pet supply stores, and we are committed to expanding our services throughout Alabama, starting in Mobile and Baldwin County.
What We Do
Program Description
The Phillip Cares Essentials (PC Essentials) program was created to provide critical support to low-income pet owners in Alabama. We offer up to $50 annually to qualifying pet owners to help cover the costs of essential items like pet food, toys, and routine veterinary care. Our goal is to prevent pet abandonment by addressing the financial challenges that often lead pet owners to surrender or abandon their pets. Many low-income families face difficult choices when it comes to meeting the needs of their pets, and PC Essentials helps alleviate this burden by providing timely and targeted assistance.
Through our partnerships with local veterinary clinics and pet supply stores, pet owners can access discounted or donated services and products, allowing the $50 assistance to go even further. For pet owners who need additional help, we offer referrals to other local organizations that provide services beyond our scope, such as pet training and emergency veterinary care. We also operate a private Facebook group where pet owners can connect with each other, share experiences, and receive advice from veterinarians and pet care experts. This online community fosters responsible pet ownership and ensures ongoing support for those who may need guidance beyond financial assistance.
We are particularly sensitive to the needs of vulnerable populations, such as domestic violence survivors and individuals displaced by natural disasters. In these cases, we waive income verification to expedite assistance, ensuring that pets remain in loving homes during times of crisis. By focusing on prevention, our program works to reduce shelter overcrowding and euthanasia rates, strengthen the human-animal bond, and improve the overall well-being of both pets and their owners.
