Volunteers needed to tutor elementary through high school students in all subject areas: English, math, science, and history. Tutors are needed Monday through Thursday from between 3-5 p.m. Tutors can attend one or more days per week. We will do virtual and/or in-person tutoring and will supply you with more information after you have responded to this need. We also need tutors for Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. (virtual only). When responding to this need, please inform us of your preference in working with a group from elementary, middle, or high school students. If you do not have a preference, that's okay too.

Cleaning Support Volunteer
Reports to: Kennel Staff II or Training Staff

As a Cleaning Support Volunteer, you’ll work alongside the kennel team to maintain clean, safe, and sanitary conditions throughout the shelter. A well-maintained environment helps reduce illness, keeps pets comfortable, and ensures animals are presented in their best light to potential adopters.

Location: Mobile County Animal Shelter 7665 Howells Ferry Rd
Time Commitment:

Shifts are approximately 3 hours long

Weekdays: Between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM

Weekends: Between 7:00 AM and 2:00 PM

Shifts are flexible - coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator or training kennel staff.

Assist with routine cleaning and sanitation tasks

Help maintain a healthy and presentable shelter environment

Check in with staff at the beginning of each shift for assigned tasks

Sanitize surfaces and areas within the adoption center following established protocols

Clean food/water dishes, perform laundry, and assist in feeding areas

Mark off completed tasks and communicate notes or needs to staff

Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety and cleaning protocols

Able to lift between 10–40 pounds

Comfortable walking, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods

Friendly and respectful when interacting with staff, visitors, and other volunteers

Donor to Diner is a student organization that oversees the Food Pantry on campus at the Academic Services Center.  Volunteers sort donations, separate items based on expiration date, and organize items into categories like: protein, vegetables & fruits, soup, and miscellaneous. 

Volunteer Opportunities: 

Shifts are available and are scheduled on a first-come-first-served basis.  You can sign up for any shift that fits your schedule by responding to this need, as long as there is an available spot open. You can still sign up for a slot that is full, but you will be put on a waitlist and be notified if your status changes. Volunteers will help create holiday cards filled with love and encouragement, then visit Brookside Senior Living Community to sing Christmas carols and spread joy to the residents. This event is all about uplifting spirits, promoting emotional well-being, and reminding our community that the holiday season is brighter when we give back together. PTE is hosting a Thanksgiving potluck with PASSAGE USA students on South's campus! Join us for good food, friendly conversation, and a chance to help create a warm, welcoming celebration. Volunteers are expected to bring a dish, help set-up, and enjoy connecting with the PASSAGE USA students in relaxed and festive atmosphere!

The Pre-PA Society Bake sale is a volunteer bake sale opportunity selling cake pops, Dubai chocolates, chocolate-covered pretzels, and pumpkin cookies. We are in need of tabling volunteers to speak and interact with students, hand out goodies, collect money, etc. The shifts are each an hour long.

Members of CKI who participated in Alabama Leadership Academy completed various service projects over the weekend during the conference.

NAACP members will volunteer to assist with a cleanup of the Mitchell Center by helping with general tidying, trash collection, and organization of the space. Volunteers will support facility staff as needed to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for the campus community.

Alpha Gamma Delta supports the Jag Pantry by organizing food drives, fundraising, and volunteering to help stock essential items for students in need. Through this initiative, members work to combat food insecurity on campus and provide a reliable, stigma-free resource for the university community.

Assist BELONG with delivering groceries to immigrant families who are unable to transport themselves to grocery stores. Deliveries should be coordinated on Weekdays before sunset, following the Mobile County Public School System calendar. When delivering groceries, be prepared to help carry groceries to the family's door if needed!

We communicate with volunteers via WhatsApp, so after responding to this need, please download this app and text Juan Torres at 251-656-4953 to be added to the group chat. Our meeting location sometimes changes so this can be confirmed in the WhatsApp group chat.

Volunteers are needed to help coordinate and oversee social outings for seniors without mobility impairments. These social outings may include dining, movies, gaming, field trips, shopping excursions, retreats, weekend trips, on a biweekly and/or monthly basis.

Are you looking to make a difference for a local homeowner? Rebuilding Together of South Alabama (RTSOAL) is looking for volunteers or groups to assistance with service days. Tasks may include installing rain barrels, installing accessibility ramps, painting, cleaning, lawn maintenance, gardening or planting flowers at an upcoming community revitalization project.

Projects are scheduled on an "as-needed" basis and typically occur in spring, fall, and winter.

Make a meaningful difference on your schedule by driving cancer patients who lack reliable transportation.

As a Road To Recovery volunteer driver, you'll provide safe transportation so patients can keep their treatment schedules and focus on healing. Rides are typically Monday–Friday during the day.

Volunteers are encouraged to drive the patient to and from the appointment, but rides are listed as one-way segments. When you drive both legs, the time during the appointment is yours (run errands, grab coffee, read, or wait in a main lobby).

Hunger is a real problem; you can work to end it by volunteering as a Food Sorting Volunteer with Feeding the Gulf Coast! 

Feeding the Gulf Coast seeks Food Sorting Volunteers to help inspect and sort food donations, preparing them for distribution to those in need. This includes checking expiration dates, making sure cans are not rusty or missing labels, and boxing similar items together to put on our shelves for our partner organizations to stock their pantries. This project requires you to engage in light to moderate physical activity.

Our veteran patients that are currently on Hospice enjoy the camaraderie and the bond that only those with military histories share and pay tribute to others who have served our county. Here at Springhill Hospice, we like to honor our veterans year-round. These volunteers may provide social visits and share memories together and provide a listening ear to someone who understands. These volunteers may also document veteran's military stories through the veteran's history project. We also do a pinning ceremony for our veterans closer to Veterans Day, and we like our veteran volunteers to take part in these ceremonies as well. Our volunteers are a vital part of our hospice team. Our patients and families connect with our volunteers on a deeper level as they open up their hearts to our volunteers who are compassionate with a servants heart. Visiting with these patients can minimize loneliness and provide them with a sense of belonging through fellowship. These volunteers can provide companionship and share interests, engage in games with the patients, read to the patients, journal, write letters to our patients and families, card making, provide a helping hand and a listening ear, provide caregiver relief as the family is able to have some free time to run errands, light housework, and many more tasks! St. Joseph Hospice is calling all volunteers ages 15 and older. St. Joseph Hospice is looking for volunteers for the following:

Red Cross needs reliable volunteers to serve as Transportation Specialists (TS) for Blood Services. TS volunteers distribute blood and blood products to area hospitals in and around Mobile, Biloxi and Pensacola utilizing a Red Cross minivan. Morning and afternoon shifts are available. (There is also a need for drivers to be on standby.)

Triage Assistant Internships/Volunteers

Escort patients to and from the lobby area. Take vitals, complete medical history forms & update medical chart, etc. Determine the reason for the visit and prepare the patient to see the Doctor. Other duties include cleaning patients' rooms, stocking them, and preparing them for the next patient. Assist medical team as needed.

Attire: Solid Color Scrubs and closed-toed shoes

Triage volunteers work as a part of a team of 3 other triage assistants. Students' placement is based on their availability to volunteer 7:30 am - 12 pm or 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm and open shifts. (Commitment: One 4-hour shift once per week for the entire semester)

Shift AM: 7:30 am - 12:00 pm Monday - Friday

Shift PM 1:00 - 5:00 pm Monday - Thursday

Are you a future teacher, college student or high school student who has a love for History, Astronomy, Zoology, Foreign Languages, Art, Drama, etc.? Do you love to share your knowledge or interests with others perhaps in a small classroom type setting? We have several residents at Mulherin Home who LOVE to learn! We are looking for volunteers to teach classes on various subjects. These are adults with special needs so there is no grading, just learning! Get volunteer hours while talking about your favorite subjects! Classes can be anywhere from 30 mins to over an hour, and can repeat or be a one time "workshop." 

You do not have to be a student to volunteer, and you do not have to be a professional in whatever subject you want to teach. You will have access to a large screen TV if you need to cast photos or videos. Most of them can not read, but they remember and love showing off what they have learned!

We accept volunteers seven days a week 9am to 5:30pm.

We have approximately 10-15 residents who are ready for classes to start!

This is an excellent way to earn a letter of recommendation for college admission or for a job!

Goodwill Gulf Coast has hundreds of books at 7431 Airport Blvd, Mobile, AL 36617, (in the Community Center) and they need to be sorted for quality so children can take them home to read and enjoy!  You, your children, co-workers or community group can make a big difference in just 2 hours of time.  

NOTE:  Parents MUST accompany children under 16; this is a weekday opportunity (M-F, 9 am to 4 pm).  You can volunteer for a short amount of time (an hour) if you like.

ECI/The Arc of Southwest Alabama is in search of volunteers for our Special Olympics program. Our agency participates in the Washington County and the state Special Olympics programs each year. Our athletes compete in Track & Field, Bocce, Golf and Powerlifting. 

We are in great need of volunteers to assist us to attend these events, especially the trip to the State Games in Troy, Alabama. This is usually the weekend after Mother's Day in May. There is a process to becoming a volunteer (background check, on-line training) so we would need to start this process as quickly as possible. There is also an opportunity closer to home, the local Special Olympics games are usually in the spring, on a Friday in April in Tibbie, Alabama.

Working with PASSAGE USA provides documented service hours, as well as practical experience for those majoring in: Education, Occupational Therapy, Recreational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Psychology, Social Work, Hospitality and Tourism, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, and Professional Health Sciences.

The University of South Alabama Student Run Free Clinic (USA SRFC) is student-led initiative with the purpose of enhancing patient care in underserved populations across Mobile, Alabama. Through the USA SRFC, students across multiple health and social science disciplines collaborate to empower patients through health education, the promotion of health literacy, and improving access to community health resources. The clinic aims to provide experiential learning for students to practice clinical and communication skills, while also improving sensitivity to vulnerable populations and promoting a lifelong commitment to service.

There are volunteer opportunities nearly every Friday afternoon. This is a great opportunity for undergraduates, nursing students, and pre-professional students interested in medicine, pharmacy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy to gain both clinical experience and interpersonal skills.

Mobile Japanese Garden is a public place with 16 acres of natural gardens and trails, and we need your help beautifying the space during the week and on the weekend. Help us get the garden ready for pictures and school field trips.

Schedule anytime around your studies and work schedules. You pick your volunteer hours. Then contact us with particular dates and times that work with your schedule. Don is here almost every other day to assist, and we'll work together as a team. 

For your volunteer service hours, we are a 501c3 charitable education, all-volunteer organization.

Dwell Connect (formerly Passport to Literacy) is our tutoring program for all school-aged children, held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 4:00-5:45pm. Volunteers can serve on either day or both days, whichever fits best with their schedule. 

Volunteers are needed from 3:30-6:00pm and will help with a variety of activities, including one-on-one tutoring, enrichment activities, and playing soccer! 

This program is held off-site from Dwell Mobile (close to South Alabama) and will follow the public school calendar. Volunteers must be 18 or older and provide a background check when working with children. Location will be given once volunteer is confirmed.

We need volunteers NOW for lots of different jobs - help with the rummage sale, folding laundry, socializing animals, walking dogs, brushing cats, recycling, crushing cans - or any one of the many projects we have going on around here from day to day! Join Circle K International on October 17, 2024, at 5:00 PM as we make blankets for Housing First, Inc., an organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families facing homelessness. This hands-on service opportunity allows members to give back to the community by creating warm, handmade blankets for those in need.

We are looking for volunteers to drive residents to doctors' appointments. Please respond to this need if you are interested in being on our list of drivers to call. The appointments are usually in the mornings on weekdays. Training for transporting residents will be provided before your first appointment. We are specifically looking for adults aged 25-50. Any help is greatly appreciated! 

It is a great way to spend one on one time with a resident and help provide care in an impactful way.

The Little Sisters of the Poor is a home for the elderly poor located in midtown Mobile. We are a non-profit and rely on generous volunteers to help accomplish our mission of loving service to the aging. We appreciate your help!

*Orientation:

All new volunteers need to schedule a 30-minute orientation and tour of the Home with the Volunteer Coordinator before or on the day of their first service. 

*Dress code:

YES: Pants, closed-toed shoes, sleeved and full-length shirts, knee-length skirts, or dresses are all acceptable.

Once the applicant completes the application they are invited to attend an orientation. At orientation we discuss the volunteer service areas and the available time slots for each area at both hospitals ( Children’s & Women’s Hospital, University Hospital).

The volunteer selects their preferred service area of choice and day/time of the week they are available. We then place the volunteers in their desired area unless the requested day/time isn’t available. Basically, we try and put the volunteer in the area they have requested unless the day/time they need is already filled.

Assist BELONG with activities for one to five children that are not yet school age and need to be cared for while their brothers and sisters are being tutored with their homework and their parents are taking an English as a Second Language Class on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 PM.  We follow the Mobile County Public School System calendar. When taking care of the children, consider having them draw, color, build/play with Legos and/or other creative children games!

Night Market is a collaborative event between the Vietnamese Student Association and Global USA, MSA, ISA, LASO, AED, and SASE to celebrate a variety of different cultures during International Education Week. Volunteers helped set up canopies and the general layout of the event in the SC amphitheater, during the event, and disassembling and cleaning up afterwards.
