Interested in working with senior citizens? Like or want experience coordinating fun events and activities? Volunteers are needed to help coordinate and oversee social outings for seniors without mobility impairments. These social outings may include dining, movies, gaming, field trips, shopping excursions, retreats, weekend trips, on a biweekly and/or monthly basis.

Volunteers are needed to support youth activities on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month, typically between 1 to 4 p.m. Depending on the volunteers' schedules, these dates/times can be flexible. On Wednesday, February 25, 2026, the Independent Music Collective (IMC) will be holding its first book fair of the semester in the HUMB courtyard from 9am to 4pm. Come browse our wide selection of used books (on all topics) and music in a variety of formats.

The girls of Chi Omega participated in a campus wide endeavor to raise money and awareness to the American Heart Association 

Members of sororities competed in Pi Kappa Phi's first ever fashion show, a fundraiser for the Ability Experience. The participants came up with their own costumes for 3 different events: decades, holidays, and sorority/philanthropy. Thank you for all who participated!!

Sweet treats are a wonderful way to start fall break! The ladies of Chi Omega raised money for Make-A-Wish by selling yummy treats. 

Department Clean up on December 5th 12:30-1:30pm. This can count for 1 SASOTA hour. 

Our volunteers are a vital part of our hospice team. Our patients and families connect with our volunteers on a deeper level as they open up their hearts to our volunteers who are compassionate with a servants heart. Visiting with these patients can minimize loneliness and provide them with a sense of belonging through fellowship. These volunteers can provide companionship and share interests, engage in games with the patients, read to the patients, journal, write letters to our patients and families, card making, provide a helping hand and a listening ear, provide caregiver relief as the family is able to have some free time to run errands, light housework, and many more tasks! Our volunteers truly make a huge impact on our families and patients. Volunteers make their own schedule and can volunteer as little or as often as possible. Help us accept, organize, price, and sell items in our thrift store! Donations to the thrift store are dropped off consistently to be organized and set out. All proceeds of Dwell Goods go to Dwell Mobile. Hours for the thrift store are Tuesday-Friday, 10:00am-6:00 pm and Saturdays 10:00am-3:00pm. *Shifts can be for full or half days or a few hours to work with your schedule.*

Hospice volunteers are the most special in the world! They always have the biggest hearts!     

Regular visits from Hospice Companions can minimize patient loneliness and isolation through fellowship.  These volunteers provide companionship to the patients and relief to their caregivers by offering a supportive presence, a listening ear and a helping hand. These type of volunteer may provide companionship, care-relief, pet therapy, life review, reading to the patient, playing games, writing letters on behalf of patient and many more tasks.  These volunteers are needed in Mobile County.  

If you have ever had a family member on Hospice, you have hopefully seen the impact that wonderful visitors can make on an entire family. 

This volunteer opportunity is great for students looking to build their resumes and get patient experience. Volunteering with patients 1:1  can sometimes be a little daunting, but we work hard to make things really comfortable for everyone! Schedules for volunteering with patients can also be super FLEXIBLE! Great for students. 

At the end of life, comfort is one of Hospice's main goals. If you are great at crafts, sewing, knitting, or crocheting, you can help provide comfort to patients and families who need it greatly!   

Items like lap blankets, fidget blankets, cards, room decorations, scrap booking, and more are needed. Your imagination can run wild because these items can go straight to patients and families to let them know someone cares.   

At the end of life, comfort  is one of our top goals in our Hospice organization. If you enjoy creating art work, painting, sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc. you can help provide comfort to our patients and families! Any items like blankets (or fidget blankets), paintings, any art work or arts & crafts, cards, home/room decor, etc. are needed! Let your unique skills and imagination run wild as your work becomes comfort to our patients and families when they need it most.

The Road To Recovery Volunteer Driver provides people with transportation to and from their cancer-related medical appointments. Drivers donate their time to help people with cancer get the lifesaving treatments they need.

Volunteers choose the rides that work best for their schedule. Most rides are scheduled during the weekday between 7am and 7pm. The American Cancer Society asks volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2 rides per month.

As a Road to Recovery driver, you can serve your community and help local people, provide support and encouragement, have rewarding one to one interactions with cancer patients, build relationships and save lives. Volunteers needed to tutor elementary through high school students in all subject areas: English, math, science, and history. Tutors are needed Monday through Thursday from between 3-5 p.m. Tutors can attend one or more days per week. We will do virtual and/or in-person tutoring and will supply you with more information after you have responded to this need. We also need tutors for Wednesday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m. (virtual only). When responding to this need, please inform us of your preference in working with a group from elementary, middle, or high school students. If you do not have a preference, that's okay too.

Community Lunch is a weekly meal provided free of charge to the families we serve and allows us to stay connected with and minister to the adults in our community. We begin serving at noon and typically serve approximately 60-80 individuals. We are usually finished serving by 12:45pm. Volunteers generally arrive around 11:30 to set up and once they are done serving the meal, many enjoy sitting and eating with our folks and even praying with them. Monday Movers help us pick up thrift store donations for our thrift store - Dwell Goods! We need volunteers every Monday beginning at 11am. Larger vehicles, trucks, and trailers for pick-ups are most helpful, but not required. We are most in need of hands to help move and organize! Volunteers can expect to serve a few hours until early afternoon.

Volunteers are needed to assist with school-age children in Dumas Wesley Community Center's After School Achievement Program. Volunteers will be responsible for, but not limited to: watching over the children, homework assistance, helping with daily activities, special events, and light organizing/cleaning. The program operates on the calendar year of the Mobile County Public School System. This volunteer need may also qualify for course credit or a student internship.

Volunteers can choose a day(s) Monday through Friday, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Volunteers may commit to one day a week or several days a week. SASOTA members will be involved in the setup and assistance of Open House for students interested in pursing a degree in occupational therapy. Volunteering will include escorting students throughout the OT department to inform them of the program, answering questions, and teaching the students about occupational therapy from a current student's point of view.

Our veteran patients that are currently on Hospice enjoy the camaraderie and the bond that only those with military histories share and pay tribute to others who have served our county.  These volunteers may provide social visits, take part in special pinning ceremonies, or interview and document veterans military stories through the veterans history project.  These visits would be made in the patients homes in Mobile County.

Ronald McDonald Family Rooms are an extension of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile, Alabama, a bit of home within the walls of USA Children’s and Women’s Hospital.

The Family Rooms are located on the 3rd and 4th floors in the pediatric tower, and serve as a place of peaceful respite, possess a warm and friendly atmosphere for families to use while remaining merely steps away from their child’s bedside. 

RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM VOLUNTEER DUTIES 

Participate in our pop tab program by collecting pull tabs from aluminum cans and donating to Ronald McDonald House. The program raises approximately $3 – $4 thousand dollars each year and goes toward the operating costs of Ronald McDonald House of Mobile. • Gather funds from your church community, co-workers, civic organizations, friends and family members to purchase a meal.  Donate these funds to Ronald McDonald House with instructions to be used for a Family Meal and our staff will order meals on your behalf for our families or YOU CAN use the funds to order catered, individually boxed meals from a local restaurant and have them delivered to Ronald McDonald House.

• Do you have access to a commercial kitchen? Become a member of our casserole club...
This club will help our house by providing freezer ready meals which will be warmed and served to our families as needed when restaurant catered meals are not available.

RMHC of Mobile relies upon donations of household items and supplies to provide the comforts of home to our families in our 38 guestroom Home and our two Family Rooms located inside USA Children’s & Women’s Hospital. Your donations help make their stay more comfortable so they can care for their hospitalized child.

Next time you are out shopping for items for your own home, we would be grateful if you picked up a few things for us, too. You can also host a donation drive for “The House That Love Built” and collect wish list items at your office, church, school or with a community group. Other duties include... Assist with all aspects of House Operations to include but not limited to:

Volunteers are required to complete a health screening bi-weekly before entering the house for your volunteer shift.

Coming home from the hospital for a freshly prepared meal, made by people who care is a real gift to our families. 

This program is for groups with a maximum of 12 volunteers.  The time commitment is usually 3–4 hours. Please consider breaking large groups into several smaller groups.  Plan to cook for 45-50 people and prepare the meal in our RMHC House kitchen. Food prepared in commercial cooking establishments such as restaurants, catering services or cafeterias and then brought in or delivered is acceptable as well. Be the first person our families meet as they enter "The House that Love Built".

RECEPTIONIST  Monday-Friday  4:30PM-8:00PM  (Hours can be flexible and you can volunteer one day a week or as many as you would like).

Responsibilities to include answering phone calls and directing callers to the correct guest room or staff member, answering the doorbell (our house is under a secure system for entry), checking to make sure that anyone entering our house has the correct wrist band upon entry and if not, directing them to the house manager for information regarding how to become a guest.  Light clerical work during slow periods and assisting staff with small projects such as addressing and mailing envelopes or stuffing our "goodie bags" to be given to our new families upon check-in.

We are looking for individuals willing to assist in our non-traditional shelter operations as needed.  Non-traditional shelters may be warming stations/shelters, cooling stations/shelter, and Safer Places (State of Alabama designated sites for severe weather).  Interested volunteers would work under a shelter manager and will assist with any needs that may arise (set up, registration, food service, site supervision, volunteer coordination, etc).   Hours would be flexible and would likely include overnight shifts.

Shelter occupants would include unhoused individuals, persons without adequate heating/air conditioning, persons medically and other vulnerable populations.

Participants would need their own transportation, a valid driver'ss license, and potentially pass a background check as the need involves serving vulnerable populations (including children) and multiple sites in Mobile County and may include some virtual activities.

Do you enjoy quiet, focused tasks that make a big impact behind the scenes? We're looking for a detail-oriented volunteer to help us enter registrations for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a program that delivers free books to children from birth to age five, right here in our community.

What You’ll Do: Twice a month, you'll spend a few hours entering new child registrations into our online system. It may not be glamorous, but your work ensures local children receive a brand-new, age-appropriate book in the mail each month—often the very first books they’ll ever own.

Why It Matters: Early exposure to books is one of the strongest predictors of a child’s future academic success. By volunteering your time, you’ll help foster a lifelong love of reading and learning for hundreds of children across Southwest Alabama.

Time Commitment and Skills Needed: Approximately 2 times per month, with flexible scheduling during business hours. You'll need basic computer skills, attention to detail, and a passion for giving kids a strong start in life.

Hurricane season is here. Help Red Cross help the community! Become a trained shelter volunteer now in preparation of opening/staffing the next needed local shelter. All disaster training is free.  

Hunger is a real problem; you can work to end it by volunteering as a Food Sorting Volunteer with Feeding the Gulf Coast! 

Feeding the Gulf Coast seeks Food Sorting Volunteers to help inspect and sort food donations, preparing them for distribution to those in need. This includes checking expiration dates, making sure cans are not rusty or missing labels, and boxing similar items together to put on our shelves for our partner organizations to stock their pantries. This project requires you to engage in light to moderate physical activity.

Mobile County EMA is looking for individuals in the Mobile, AL area who are willing to help our agency in assisting the citizens of Mobile.  Activities will be varied and require various physical activities and abilities.  It may be answering phones, loading water and food into vehicles, working in our warehouse or a donated goods warehouse, and managing various volunteer operations and many more possibilities.

Persons interested would be encouraged to participate in trainings and exercises to achieve a basic level of competency in emergency management practices and tactics.  Trainings would be free of charge and would be virtual and in-person.  A simple application and liability release are required.  Hours are flexible and would primarily be M-F, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM in Blue Skies (Day-to-Day) and in Grey Skies (Hazzard/Disaster times) it would be 4, 6, 8, and 12 hour shifts based on need and your willingness to participate.
