As part of the 2019 MLK Week of Unity and Service, the Community Connect Panel and Celebration Reception will be held on the USA campus. This is a community conversation about Unity.
Date: Friday, January 18th
When: 6:30 to 9:00pm
Where: Student Center Ballroom
What: Speakers will be from University of South Alabama, University of Mobile, and Spring Hill College; Education; the Community; and elected officials. Refreshments will be served. Our own Reed Miller, Senior at USA will be on the student panel with students from other area schools. Mobile's own Clara Ester will be speaking. Clara, an African American woman who has spent all her life in the South, was shaped by her experiences as a community organizer amidst the tumult of the 1960s. As a college student, she was a witness at the Lorraine Motel when Dr. King was killed in Memphis. The events changed her life and the communities where she has lived and served.
Who: All students, staff and faculty are invited to join members of the community for this special event of recognition and celebration.
Navy t-shirts will be given out on a first-come/first-served basis to those who participate in the week. Please use this link to let us know your preferred shirt size after you RESPOND to the Need.
