Administrative Hospice Volunteers play a vital behind-the-scenes role at VITAS, offering clerical & organizational support that helps our teams deliver exceptional care to patients & families.Patient Care Hospice Volunteers bring comfort, companionship, & emotional support to patients & families during end-of-life care. They offer light assistance, respite, & a caring presence— sometimes extending that support through gentle bereavement care for loved ones. Volunteers serve in homes, nursing facilities, or Inpatient Hospice Centers, complementing the clinical team with heartfelt, non-medical care tailored to each patient’s needs.

Volunteer Program Assistant Volunteers play a vital behind-the-scenes role in strengthening the hospice volunteer program. By assisting the Volunteer Manager with administrative and coordination tasks, they help ensure volunteers are well-supported, organized, and ready to serve patients and families. This role is ideal for detail-oriented individuals who enjoy supporting people, staying organized, and contributing to a meaningful healthcare mission in a professional office environment during standard business hours.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, MAY INCLUDE:

Helping with clerical tasks, data entry, filing, friendly phone calls, newsletter prep, & keeping our supply room organized.Dropping off supplies, groceries, or medications to patients & caregivers.Taking part in Veteran pinning, community fairs, & VITAS booths to share our mission & connect with others.Making proactive & bereavement check-in calls, listen with care, & share any concerns with the team.Supporting with other meaningful tasks as they arise.Logging/documenting your volunteer activities/hours promptly.Greeting visitors with warmth, offer tours, play soothing music, help with light tidying, & alert staff to call lights.Participating in team meeting, trainings, & in-services as required.Performing other duties as assigned.

Assisting the Volunteer Manager with day-to-day administrative tasks, including organizing volunteer records, data entry, filing, and assembling volunteer or informational packets.Supporting volunteer coordination efforts by helping prepare onboarding materials, tracking documentation, and maintaining organized databases.Answering phones and providing a professional, welcoming presence to volunteers, families, and staff as part of the office reception team.Assisting with large-scale mailings, volunteer communications, and outreach efforts, including bilingual support when applicable.Helping restock office and volunteer supplies to ensure the Volunteer Manager has the resources needed to support the volunteer team.Providing support during weekday business hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM) at the VITAS office.Completing the free VITAS volunteer orientation and passing a standard background check (open to volunteers ages 18 and older).

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES, MAY INCLUDE:

Helping with clerical tasks, data entry, filing, friendly phone calls, newsletter prep, & keeping our supply room organized.Dropping off supplies, groceries, or medications to patients & caregivers.Taking part in Veteran pinning, community fairs, & VITAS booths to share our mission & connect with others.Making proactive & bereavement check-in calls, listen with care, & share any concerns with the team.Supporting with other meaningful tasks as they arise.Logging/documenting your volunteer activities/hours promptly.Greeting visitors with warmth, offer tours, play soothing music, help with light tidying, & alert staff to call lights.Participating in team meeting, trainings, & in-services as required.Performing other duties as assigned.
