Description

Do you recruit volunteers for your nonprofit? Do you need help finding volunteers for your programs? Need an easy way to track your volunteers' hours of service? Did you just find out your organization has a Volunteer Connect or South Serves profile, but you have no idea how to use either system? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, this training is for you.

Join us for a training session on using United Way's Volunteer Connect and the University of South Alabama's South Serves systems to find and manage volunteers. Lee Boykin from the USA Office of Community Engagement and Brad Martin from United Way of Southwest Alabama will demonstrate the use of both systems to manage and promote volunteer opportunities to our local community.

Bonus option: You also have the opportunity to attend a lunch discussion immediately before the training. The lunch discussion will give you a chance to meet with faculty members who have expressed an interest in developing a relationship with community agencies. Faculty members will be learning about developing future service learning opportunities where students can volunteer with agencies to add to their classroom experiences.

The lunch discussion and the training will take place on July 31 in the University Commons Building, 75 South University Blvd. You have the option of attending both events, or just the software training.

  • The lunch discussion begins at 12:30 in room 1217.
  • The software training begins at 1:30 in Room 1220.

Each event is limited to 20 participants, so registration is required, and you can register here. Sign up now before all spots are taken.

Before the training:

  1. Verify that your organization is registered in either Volunteer Connect or South Serves. (You don't have to be a member of both.) If your agency isn't registered in either system, or if you're not sure, contact Brad Martin at bmartin@uwswa.org or Lee Boykin at leeboykin@southalabama.edu and we can help you register in the right place. (Note: If your agency is registered, but you yourself are not, please don't create another agency profile. Simply create an individual login for yourself, and we'll connect you to your agency's existing profile.
  2. Make sure you can log into either Volunteer Connect or South Serves. You don't need an account in both systems. If you're not sure which system you should be using, contact one of us and we can help you figure that out.
  3. (Optional) Bring information about a volunteer need or event with you. Trainings are always better with real-world examples. You might even get the opportunity to have the rest of the group help you write your need or event description.

We look forward to seeing you on July 31. Now, don't forget to register!
