Description

Do you recruit volunteers for your nonprofit? Do you need help finding volunteers for your programs? Need an easy way to track your volunteers' hours of service? Did you just find out your organization has a Volunteer Connect or South Serves profile, but you have no idea how to use either system? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, this training is for you.

Join us for a training session on using United Way's Volunteer Connect and the University of South Alabama's South Serves systems to find and manage volunteers. Lee Boykin from the USA Office of Community Engagement and Brad Martin from United Way of Southwest Alabama will demonstrate the use of both systems to manage and promote volunteer opportunities to our local community.

The training will take place on Tuesday, May 7, at 9 AM at the University of South Alabama's University Commons building, Room 1220.

After completing this training you will be able to:

  • Understand the functions of Volunteer Connect and South Serves.
  • Explain the relationship between South Serves and Volunteer Connect.
  • Write need descriptions that encourage people to volunteer with your organization.
  • Publicize community events or happenings through the two systems.
  • Track and/or approve hours of service for volunteers.

To prepare for this training, you should:

  1. Sign up for the workshop! Space is limited to 24 participants, so reserve your spot. And if you find out you can't attend, please let us know; cancel your reservation so someone else can use it.
  2. Verify that your organization is registered in either Volunteer Connect or South Serves. If your agency isn't registered in either system, or if you're not sure, contact Brad Martin at bmartin@uwswa.org or Lee Boykin at leeboykin@southalabama.edu and we can help you register in the right place. (Please note: If your agency is registered, but you yourself are not, please don't create another agency profile. Simply create an individual login for yourself, and we'll connect you to your agency's existing profile.
  3. Make sure you can log into either Volunteer Connect or South Serves. You don't need an account in both systems. If you're not sure which system you should be using, contact one of us and we can help you figure that out.
  4. (Optional) Bring information about a volunteer need or event with you. Trainings are always better with real-world examples. You might even get the opportunity to have the rest of the group help you write your need or event description.
