Description

In America we waste between 25-40% of all of the food we produce, yet millions of seniors, kids, and every age in between, go hungry every day. A lot of the waste is fresh, delicious and nutritious produce that is left in the field to rot.

For people who struggle with making ends meet, produce is often considered a luxury item due to the high cost. When household budgets become tight, the nutritious quality of the food purchased is the first thing sacrificed to save money. However, we know how essential produce is for maintaining good health. Help us be part of the solution, become a Feeding the Gulf Coast Grow Getter.

What is a Grow Getter? A Grow Getter is valued volunteer we call on when a farmer is ready to donate produce that is no longer marketable for their farm, but is still in good shape to serve families. Often these calls from local farms are a matter of urgency and we do not have a lot of notice. To meet this need, we are looking for a group of people committed to our mission of bringing healthy food to local people in need who are willing to be contacted and help us on short notice. All Grow Getters will need to be trained in Farm and Food Safety in order to participate.

The first training is June 19th 5:30-6:30 at our Theodore warehouse. This training will go over the entirety of the program. We will also ask for your availability and level of physicality (i.e. can only do weekends with moderate lifting.)

Are you interested in becoming a Grow Getter? Take the first step and register for the Farm and Food Safety training. It is June 19th from 5:30-6:30pm at our Theodore warehouse. Please come to this training if you are at all interested in this program. It truly makes a difference in the lives of the people we serve.
