Volunteer Income Tax Assistance: Tax Preparer 101 for June

If you'd like to volunteer with United Way of Southwest Alabama and the SAFE Coalition to help low and middle income taxpayers with their tax returns, now is a great time to start training. Sure, tax season is months away, but who wants to rush to learn all that material? Take it slow. Be thorough. Start preparing now, and you can volunteer during the summer months to get familiar with the process and techniques before the intensity of tax season begins. Training will be held on Saturday, June 27 from 9:30 AM until 12:30 PM at Spring Hill College. No experience is necessary, but these trainings are specifically geared toward the volunteer (free) tax prep programs; this training will not certify you to the level required of paid preparers. Note that an afternoon "102" session will be held as a followup to this one. You can stick around for the afternoon session, or sign up for a future 102 session to be scheduled later.
